June 20 World Refugee Day
In 2000, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to dedicate 20th of June to refugees. Since then, World Refugee Day is celebrated every year around the world. It is a day to commemorate the courage and strength of the world’s refugees. Celebrations take place in more than 100 countries of the world thorugh different arrangements such as professional and cultural events, conferences, family and children’s programmes. World Refugee Day 2009 is focusing what refugees need worldwide. The most urgent need for refugees in Central Europe is to find the protection they cannot get in their own home country.
